If you’re having sleep problems related to congestion or a dry, scratchy throat, you might be surprised just how much good the right humidifier can do for you. I’m a relatively new humidifier user, and I’m wondering why I didn’t try one years ago. I’m sleeping through the night with no coughing and waking with less congestion and no dryness in my throat. And that’s a big deal.
There are many humidifier and vaporizer units on the market, and some of them get very poor reviews. But the Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier provides comforting moisture with complete reliability. Since a new model has recently replaced the Vicks V745 unit, the few issues people had with this brand of humidifiers have been solved. Keep reading for more about why this new model is my choice for my bedroom.
My Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier Review
Featuring a capacity of a gallon and two different setting that make sure you always get what you want, the Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier — available from Amazon — can run for as long as 24 hours without being refilled.
It features an automatic shut-off that means if it runs out of water overnight, you don’t have to worry. And the new model now includes slots where you can insert scents like VapoPads or VapoSteam pads, making the unit work somewhat like a medicated vaporizer as well. As a bonus, there are no filters to replace as there are with some other humidifier brands.
I’ve been sold on this model since trying it because it couldn’t be easier to use. Just set it on low or high and you’re done. Note that the unit doesn’t turn off if the humidity in the room starts getting high, so you might want to get a humidistat that will help you keep an eye the current humidity level. There’s no real danger from letting the humidity get high, but if it’s a bit warm in your bedroom, this can cause you to start feeling sticky — and you don’t want that.
I’ve found that this unit can also be used in a larger room and will work pretty well. Since the tank is large
I particularly like that the latest Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier doesn’t make much noise. While I actually like to sleep with some noise in the room, I use a noise machine and sometimes just a fan to create it, and I don’t want to listen to a humidifier gurgling away. If you hear anything at all from this unit, it will be only a slight hiss, and you usually won’t even hear that.
As you might expect, the noise is slightly more on when set on high. There are ultrasonic humidifier that make no noise at all, but this one makes so little that it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.
Maintenance for the Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier is only a daily cleaning. How much cleaning yours will require each day depends on the quality of your water. If there are lots of mineral in your water, you’ll have to clean more carefully. If you use distilled water, there’s minimal cleanup, but this can get expensive after a while. You have to decide if the cost of distilled water is worth the time savings in cleaning each day.
You may notice some users online commenting about leaking or durability problems, but remember that this model replaced the old Vicks V745 model, and many of those complaints actually refer to the old model. Those issues have been solved with the introduction of this improved model.
Of course, use care if you have kids or pets in your home who could turn the unit over.
Final Thoughts On This Humidifier
I wish I had discovered humidifiers sooner, and I’m glad the Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier is the model I found. I’ve had a variety of sleep issues in my life, and nothing is worse than not being able to sleep because of congestion or a dry throat. Like all other sleep issues, however, those problems can be solved — and it’s possible to get a good night’s sleep.
This humidifier is an important piece of the puzzle that adds up to perfect nights for me, and I think it could be just what you’re looking for. Never wake up coughing or with a scratchy throat again when you start using this humidifier every night.
